Jay-Soul – Music about the journey.

Original but mainstream, soulful yet club-friendly, London singer-songwriter Jay- Soul’s debut album respects his jau-soul and RnB influences while finding a sound that is at once fresh and retro.



Day and night, his forthcoming debut album is a biographical journey that moves from moody retrospective soul-searching to clarity and inspiration.



A musical journey as individual as the artist behind it, Jay-Soul is an antidote to manufactured pop and what he calls ‘plastic soul’ – the over-produced pop that dominates the charts. He’s not afraid of the pop label:





"I think pop can be soulful; that it should have something to say. Sure some music is popular because it’s everywhere you turn… but great pop is popular because it connects with people. There’s room for soulful pop with a message; my music is about my personal journey - the things I’ve learned, the mistakes I’ve made, the things I’ve realised along the way."



And maybe he’s right – part of the appeal of retro trends in music today stem from the quality of musicianship and song-writing all too often produced out of modern pop and replaced with autotuning and production effects.



Jay-Soul isn’t riding the crest of any musical trend:





"It’s about being true to the way music used to make me feel. I know people are going to listen to the album and hear nineties influences alongside the more modern club-friendly tracks; but that’s okay. In many ways this album charts my personal journey. I’ve been singing my whole life, and elements of the music that made me want to do that can be heard throughout the album. It’s my personal journey, things I’ve lost, things I’ve found, mistakes I’ve made and things I’ve learned along the way."
